This position provides operational guidance in the design, development, and evaluation of health information systems ensuring efficient and effective processes and procedures to support the provision of quality patient care. The clinical informatics/quality services director provides a bridge between clinical and non-clinical departments to facilitate clinical transformation using technology and provides a link between committees and core teams to facilitate communication and collaboration on common projects, goals, and interests.
The director develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive quality management program; coordinates the education, implementation activities, and evaluation of quality improvement. The quality management program includes clinical quality improvement, patient safety, performance improvement functions, infection control, utilization review, and patient relations. The director is responsible for internal and external reporting requirements for process improvement initiatives and all required external reporting of clinical measures.
This role reports to the Chief Information Officer.
Coordinates system-wide accreditation readiness activities
Oversees the infection control program in collaboration with the infection prevention nurse.
Utilization review and management
Oversees patient relations and service recovery program
Responsible for patient safety event monitoring and reporting system
Supports and assists in the development of a Peer Review Process
Provides oversight for clinical quality data reporting including, but not limited to, internal data tracking, trending and analysis as well as all external reporting requirements
Facilitates process improvement by utilizing workflow analysis tools and clinical data to bring an objective view to help identify areas for improvement and evaluate workflow effectiveness
Responsible for existing and future clinical system needs including, but not limited to the maintenance and optimization of the current electronic health record in addition to oversight of innovation of technology as it relates to clinical processes.
Provides facilitation between clinical and technical staff to assist in requirements gathering necessary for system acquisitions, system design, technological enhancements, or additional data and reporting needs system-wide
Provides a planned, efficient, system-wide approach to identifying, designing, measuring, prioritizing, and monitoring all quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Current Minnesota RN license
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or healthcare-related field
Master’s Degree in a clinical field required with information management and analytical coursework preferred
5 years of healthcare clinical information systems and/or quality management experience required
Two years supervisory management required
Knowledge and experience in Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA, process re-engineering, or other performance improvement methods with record of successful improvement projects
Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to build interpersonal relationships towards creative problem solving in a collaborative environment
Working knowledge/experience is required in all of the following:
Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Access)
Clinical Systems
Project Management
Working in collaboration with physicians and other clinical staff to create strategic plans and roadmaps related to health information technology and process redesignDNV, ISO, Baldrige experience
Knowledge of major trends in healthcare and understanding of state and federal regulations related to quality, safety, and health information technology and health information management (CMS Medicare Quality Payment Programs, HIPAA, ARRA/Hitech, etc.)
Appropriate financial expertise related to resource allocation, budget creation, and management and revenue enhancement opportunities
Experience with change management
