Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) seeks an outstanding, experienced and progressive physician executive to serve as the Vice President & Chief Quality Officer (CQO). The CQO will be the senior executive responsible for advancing a premier quality and safety program in a high performing organization.
Headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, MWHC is a dynamic and sophisticated not-for-profit, independent, regional health system consisting of two hospitals, three emergency departments, and over 40 healthcare facilities and wellness services. Mary Washington Hospital, a 471-bed hospital, has achieved Magnet recognition for the third consecutive time and serves as a hub for complex medical care. Stafford Hospital, which opened in 2009, is a state-of-the-art 100-bed hospital that complements the needs of the surrounding community. The regional healthcare system includes a successful, growing accountable care organization and has a dedicated board and senior leadership team that is committed to advancing MWHC's mission of serving the community. As the dominant healthcare organization in the area, MWHC is financially solvent and has strong market share. The CQO will lead with systemic passion and devotion to quality and safety and will instill a culture of clinical excellence. This excellence will be accompanied by an evidence-based and data-driven approach that transforms quality and safety from a reactive to a proactive approach. This leader will form strong partnerships with employed and independent physicians, along with nursing staff and senior leadership to implement innovative, strategic, and effective programs across the continuum of care. The CQO's leadership and direction will drive MWHC to exceed national quality benchmarks and become a regional leader in quality and safety.
The successful candidate will be a physician with a proven track-record in a complex hospital or health system environment. They will be regarded as the champion and subject matter expert for quality and patient safety initiatives and have a familiarity of clinical information systems, technology and reporting systems. The ideal candidate is an enterprising, visible, transparent and decisive leader and communicator who is able to foster relationships, trust and collaboration across the organization. A Doctor of Medicine degree is required, as well as completion of a postgraduate medical education in an ACGME-approved residency program with current Board Certification. An advanced degree in healthcare management, the study of quality or a business related field is desired, but not required.
